UiPath Agentic Process Modeling Using BPMN

UiPath Agentic Process modeling using BPMN

UiPath’s Agentic process integrates advanced AI technologies—including large language models (LLMs), traditional AI like machine learning, and enterprise automation—to build autonomous AI agents capable of analyzing data, setting goals, and executing actions. As the first step in the Agentic workflow, UiPath offers a specialized designer BPMN canvas within its UiPath Maestro service. This feature allows users to design and configure long-running enterprise processes using the industry-standard BPMN format.

Modeling your process:

UiPath’s Maestro modeling canvas enables the design of complex workflows involving multiple agents, fostering collaboration among all stakeholders—business users, automation developers, and AI experts. It supports the creation of dynamic processes while managing unpredictable agent behaviours through predefined rules.

As shown below, a simple end-to-end “procure-to-pay” flow is manually created using UiPath’s BPMN canvas. Like other BPMN tools, UiPath’s canvas visualizes workflows using standard BPMN elements such as tasks, gateways, and events.

The BPMN canvas includes a variety of elements, and there is a slight learning curve involved in understanding how to effectively use them to design an efficient end-to-end business process workflow.

The BPMN canvas in UiPath can be accessed through several methods:

  • By enabling the Maestro service within UiPath Automation Cloud.
  • By using Studio Web in UiPath Automation Cloud and creating a new project of the Agentic Process type.
  • UiPath also recommends using bpmn.uipath.com as a sandbox environment for modeling purposes, as it does not include implementation capabilities.

Autopilot for BPMN Canvas:

Autopilot is a virtual assistant that delivers AI-powered experiences across various UiPath products and services. Specifically, Autopilot for BPMN Canvas assists users by analyzing process models, identifying automation opportunities, and offering optimization recommendations based on BPMN and UiPath technologies.

Now that we have modelled a flow. By deploying the Maestro canvas model in UiPath, it allows to create or make use of the existing processes for the end-to-end canvas model. It can be the mix of automations, AI agents, human-in-the-loop tasks as part of process implementation. We’ll dive deeper into this in our upcoming blogs.
